At CMA’s Children’s Choir, we see children as mentors, guiding us with their kindness, resilience, and unwavering spirit. One of our choir members joined as a non-verbal child, their voice unheard even by their own family. Yet, from the very beginning, they shined in other ways: helping, supporting, and leading younger members with a quiet strength.
Through the power of music and a nurturing community, something incredible happened. Simple participation turned into soft hums. Soft hums became simple lines. Simple lines grew into full songs. And then, beyond the choir, they spoke their first words at home.
It was a moment of pure magic, one that reminds us that even when we cannot see or hear progress, it is unfolding in ways beyond our understanding. This journey was made possible by a parent’s belief in the power of music and an educator’s dedication to nurturing every child’s potential.
To every family walking a similar path—trust your heart, believe in unseen possibilities, and know that within every child lies the power to do the extraordinary.
Children may be small in size, but their power is limitless. With tiny hands, bright eyes, and boundless imagination, they shape the world around them in ways we often overlook.
One such visionary at CMA is Aida—a child whose wisdom, kindness, and creativity continuously shape our community. From suggesting new class ideas to improving functionality, reimagining projects, and even curating the snack bar and treasure box, Aida’s contributions go far beyond her years.
She reminds us that every child holds the power to inspire change. At CMA, we celebrate and empower individuality, knowing that when we truly listen to children, we unlock a future filled with innovation, joy, and endless possibilities.
We often celebrate the glorious, inspiring moments, but sometimes, it’s the unexpected, heartwarming ones that stay with us the longest.
One of our most cherished memories at CMA was when siblings Collin and Miranda Wang performed their first duet together. As they finished, Collin confidently took a bow—backwards—giving the audience a view of his back instead of his face. Without hesitation, his older sister, Miranda, gently turned him around, guiding him to bow properly. The entire venue erupted in laughter, not out of mockery but out of pure joy.
That moment became a lasting memory, a reminder of the beauty in imperfection and the warmth of shared experiences. Every time we prepare for a performance, we practice bowing techniques—always with a fond smile, remembering Collin’s unforgettable bow. And now, so does he.
It’s these simple, unpolished moments that linger in our hearts long after the music fades.
Avisha and Mimo, dressed all in white after their Winter Vocal Performances, are just one example of the many friendships that blossom at CMA. After a semester of vocal practice and choir, bonds go beyond music—some friends meet before rehearsals to read together, others have secret break-time meetups, and some even drop by on off-days just to sing and practice.
But it doesn’t stop there! Families have connected, too, planning get-togethers, vacations, and new adventures. At CMA, music is the thread that weaves lasting friendships, creating a community where creativity, joy, and lifelong memories flourish.
At our first concert at the Beethoven Center, we noticed a pattern—back-to-back piano performances, while beautiful, left the audience too relaxed. That’s when Ms. Orensa stepped in with a brilliant idea. With her surprise act, she completely transformed the energy in the room. The audience sat up, phones came out, and laughter filled the space. A small mishap, a dropped prop, only made the moment more memorable.
Since then, Ms. Orensa has become a highlight of every concert, reminding us that performances are more than just music; they’re about creating unforgettable moments.
At every CMA concert, performers receive a personalized gift, a tradition that celebrates their passions and hard work. Teachers take the time to learn what each student loves, whether it’s insects, space, books, or simply cozy moments. The behind-the-scenes work begins to find the right gift that connects with the performer.
This tradition is more than a gift; it’s a reflection of each individual’s unique journey. Just as they share their music with heart and dedication, they are met with a small yet meaningful token of love and appreciation. It’s a reminder that music is not just about performing; it’s about connection, kindness, and creating lasting memories together.
