Prof. Wajdi Abu Diab

Wajdi Abou Diab, a composer, musicologist, and educator from Lebanon, draws inspiration from his dual cultural background in Arabic Levantine and Western classical music. Born in Shouf in 1991 and graduated from the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music with diplomas in Piano and Music Composition, an alumnus of EAMA (Paris – France 2023), Re.Music academy (Moscow – Russia 2023), Plucomp (French Compte – France 2023), Puccini International Opera course (Luca – Italy 2021), YES Academy (Lebanon 2019-2021), and he is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Musicology of Tradition from Antonin University under the supervision of Professor Nidaa Bou Mrad.

He has been recognized by the international music community through accolades at the Euro Music Video Festival, the Emerging Composer Competition by Rising Tide Press and the International Women Brass Conference, The Gaetano Giani Luporini prize, the American Viola Society’s Gardner Music Composition Competition, the LIMF Composition Competition, and Cergy Pontoise Orchestra-studio, and his work has been selected for various Calls For Score. Wajdi composer’s residencies include residencies at Cite Musicale De Metz and Cite Musicale De L’abbaye Aux Dames De Sainte.

His piano books “Arabic Folk Tunes”, “Longa and Sama’i”, and “Wadeeh El Safi – the Songwriter” is created to introduce pianists and classical musicians to Arabic music. His initiatives Free Music Education For All and The Lebanese Living Composer’s Chanel have built the trust and support of patrons such as AFAC, Freemuse, Cultural Ressources, Goethe Institute, CPML, and CCF.

Wajdi’s works were performed by the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lebanese Oriental Orchestra, the Taipei Civic Symphony Orchestra, the International Contemporary Ensemble, The Moscow contemporary ensemble, the Talla Rouge duo, the Austrasia Quartet, Du Vert A L’Infini quartet, Chromatic Brass Collective, the Tunisia 88 Honors Choir, among others. Wajdi was chosen as a music ambassador for his country Lebanon at the World Music Conference (2021-2023), and he is a proud member of the ACAN network, the Millennium Composers Initiative, the Boston New Music Initiative, and the SMCPL.
